Mother arrested after hidden camera shows her injecting son with ‘potentially lethal’ substance
A 28-year old mother from Virginia’s Fairfax County has been arrested for allegedly injecting her five-year old son with an unknown substance – which doctors say could have killed him.
According to a report filed by Fox 5 DC, Elizabeth Malone brought her son to Inova Fairfax hospital with symptoms including spontaneously bleeding from the mouth and nose. Documents filed with the court state that doctors at the hospital ran a series of tests which came back normal. However, hospital staff were concerned, especially as the child had been admitted to the hospital 7 times since February.
Child Protective Services were notified and a camera was installed in the boy’s room. Investigators claim that on April 25, footage was recorded that “captured the mother taking a syringe from a medical cart, emptying its contents and filling it with an unknown fluid from her purse.” It is alleged that Malone then administered the substance to her son through his mouth and nose.
Hospital staff said that without immediate medical intervention, the boy could have died. Malone was subsequently charged with felony child abuse and neglect. She is currently being held without bond and is expected to return to court later this month.
