Former teacher’s aide faces 12 years to life in prison after conviction for sex with 14-year old student

A former teacher’s aide from Colorado faces a sentence ranging from 12 years to life in prison after she was convicted of having unprotected sex with a 14 year-old student in the trunk of her car.

According to a report by the Greeley Tribune, 26-year old Jerica Enriquez was accused of having sex without a condom with the boy back in Autumn 2016. Prior to their first meeting for sex, it was alleged that Enriquez had sent the boy nude photos of herself through Facebook messenger.

The first sexual encounter – which took place inside the trunk of Enriquez’s SUV – was followed a week later with another episode at the same park. After this, the boy reportedly decided to ‘break up’ with her. During the court case, it emerged that Enriquez told the boy she ‘wasn’t feeling well’ and could ‘possibly be pregnant’. She later texted him a photo of a negative pregnancy test.

“This defendant was someone who was supposed to lead and guide these students on a better path,” said Weld District Attorney Michael Rourke in a statement. “All kids are vulnerable, but these kids are at an alternative school for a reason and are even more at risk than other kids their age.”

Enriquez was convicted of sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust, and will be sentenced on August 9.
