Female gym teacher gets 7 year jail term for child sex abuse after she faked a brain tumour
A 29-year old gym teacher and former rugby player for Wales has received a 7-year jail sentenced after she pleaded guilty to sexual assault and inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.
According to a report filed by Wales Online, Rhian Nokes lied to the student that she had a terminal brain tumour. After using this lie to establish a relationship with the teenager, she allegedly began corresponding with her with more than 12,000 texts exchanged. When the teenager turned 15, Nokes had sexual contact with her.
Prosecutor Catherine Richards said the girl felt “controlled” by Nokes and “gave up everything” because she feared her teacher might die. The victim said to police: “I really looked up to her and everything she told me she had achieved. When she told me she was terminally ill and had nowhere else to turn to I had nothing else in my mind but to be there for her.”
The relationship between Nokes and the victim lasted about three years. However, once the victim learned that Nokes had been lying about having a brain tumour, she broke off the relationship and notified police. Nokes pleaded guilty to sexual activity with a child and inciting a child to engage in sexual activity. She also admitted sexual activity with a child while in a position of trust.
